Biography

Dr. Shalumon joined HJ research group as in January 2020. Born in 1980, he earned his post graduate degree in Polymer chemistry from St. Michael’s College, Cherthala of Kerala University in 2004. Later he joined in the Biomedical Technology (BMT) wing of SreeChitraTirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram on 2005 March and continued there as a Junior Research Fellow till May2007. During this period, he has performed various researches on polymeric orthopedic materials, fixation devices, potting compounds for haemodialyser etc. and also worked as visiting researcher in University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Soon after this, he started his PhD in Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, Amritavishwavidyapeetham University, Kochi, India and graduated in 2012. Dr. Shalumon began his professional career as a University post-doctoral fellow in Institute of regenerative engineering, UConn Health Center, University of Connecticut (UCONN)-USA from February 2013, under Professor Cato Laurencin and conducted research on biodegradable orthopedic materials for tissue engineering applicationstill October.

He then moved to the Bioengineering lab, Department of chemical and materials engineering, Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwanon November 2013 under Professor Jyh-Ping Chen and continued till January 2020. There he worked on polymeric anti-adhesion barrier films for both peritoneal and flexor tendon adhesions, various scaffolds for bone repair, microsphere based osteochondral systems, multifunctional membranes, thermosensitive injectable hydrogels, tubular systems for peripheral nerve regeneration, fibrous yarns for ligament and tendon regeneration etc. He also got expertized in rat, mice and rabbit animal model surgeries during this period. He also worked as a visiting scientist in the MOST-DST fundedTaiwan-India bilateral research project (2015-2018) (Amritavishwavidyapeetham University, Kochi, India) as well as MOST-DAAD Taiwan-Germany funded personnel exchange program (2019) (University of Duisburg-Essen, Essen, Germany). In January 2020, he joined in IUCND-CUSAT as prestigious Ramalingaswami Faculty Fellow and still continuing his research in nano-biomaterials. He has about 50+ international journals in his credit including 5 review articles and 3 book chapters. He is also a life member of Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs of India (SBAOI).
